Fulbright Forum 2009

Event:   Fulbright Forum 2009
"Nations in Crisis: The View from Home"
Date:   Apr 4 2009
Time:   8:30AM - 2:30PM ET
Location:   Northeastern University
Description:   Every year, the Massachusetts Chapter of the Fulbright Association holds a Forum for current Fulbright Students and Scholars and American Alumni of the Fulbright Program. I am writing to ask if you might be interested in participating on a panel on “Nations in Crisis: The View from Home.” On this panel we are planning to have six current Fulbrighters speak briefly and participate in a discussion on key problems in their own countries. Three of the panelists will speak from 9:00 to 9:45, followed by a 15 minute break, then the other three will speak from 10:00 to 10:45. In order to leave adequate time for discussion and questions, we would ask panelists to limit their remarks to 10 minutes each. Dr. Alan Schechter of Wellesley College, who was a member of the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board at the State Department for nine years, will moderate this panel. Following the morning panel, we will have a keynote address by Dr. Allan Goodman, President of the Institute of International Education in New York, on “The Future of the Fulbright Program.” Lunch will be served from 12:00 to 12:45, and the Forum will conclude with a panel on “International Perspectives on American Foreign Policy,” presenting the work of the Fulbright Study Group at the Harvard Law School. If you are interested presenting on the morning panel on “Nations in Crisis,” please send a brief summary of your proposed presentation, together with a one page resume, by Friday, February 6, directly to Professor Alan Schechter at aschechter@wellesley.edu. To round out our program, we are particularly interested in presentations on South Asia, Afghanistan, Central Asia, and Northeast Asia. Please feel free to contact Professor Schechter if you have any questions. And be sure to mark your calendar for April 4! James Reed (Harvard University) President Massachusetts Fulbright Association.
